Household Model of Care
As Andy Iskason was traveling to 75 different senior living communities to search for ideas on models of care for his communities and for a better way to do it, he found that the communities with the longest waitlist were the communities built around the Dementia Care Matters model of care - or what Isakson Living now calls The Household Model of Care.
“We did the first Household Model of Care in Georgia at our Parks Spring retirement community. The core belief is that with dementia, you may lose some of your abilities and function, but your emotions are still there. They teach us how to connect with people emotionally. Peachtree Hills Place is our second Household Model of Care in Georgia.”

This household model offers four levels of care
- Assisted Living
- Memory Care
- Skilled Nursing
- Short-term Rehabilitation
Each household has its own dining room and kitchen where meals are prepared to order by one of seven designated personal chefs and homemakers. Households have their own living and social areas as well as outdoor space. In each household, care-partners are trained to get to know the members and their families to create an environment the Members are familiar with. This household model is a relationship-based model instead of a traditional, task-based model. It’s a model without regulations and with a focus on the person as a whole.
