September 22 is National Falls Prevention and Awareness Day. According to the National Council on Aging’s (NCOA) website, the goal of the day is to “promote and increase public awareness about how to prevent and reduce falls among older adults.” In order to share how you can join the effort of public awareness for this issue, the NCOA is hosting a webinar on August 28th from 3:00 to 4:30 pm ET titled “Standing Together to Prevent Falls.”
“At Park Springs fall prevention is everyone’s responsibility and best practices start with awareness, education, and prevention.”Shona Alexander
According to the NCOA website, “Falls are the leading cause of injury related deaths of older adults, the primary reason for older adult injury emergency department visits, and the most common cause of hospital admissions for trauma.” With the aging population in America growing rapidly with the Baby Boomers, our healthcare system may soon be overwhelmed with injuries resulting from falls.
The webinar will cover strategies for bringing greater awareness to aging adults on fall prevention, how to participate in National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, the CDC’s new STEADI program and funding options. For more information on the NCOA webinar and to register for the event, click here.
